About us
kaïkø
noun Sea with strong current
Contemporary, earthy and industrial concrete home accessories, lighting and jewellery designed and handcrafted in Wicklow, Ireland.
Linda & Maciej, our background is in interior architecture and concrete construction and we both love hikes around Wicklow, we're fascinated by sacred geometry and we're passionate about holistic and sustainable living.
Start of the business:
In November, 2016 we founded contemporary home accessory and furniture design company Kaïkø Studïø. And few months in we also started experimenting with jewellery designs using same industrial materials.
Designs and products:
We work mostly with concrete, resin and brass; our designs are nature inspired and organic in harmony with architectural and geometrical. When living in Dublin city centre influence from urban setting was very visible in our designs with clean symmetrical lines and monochrome palette. But since moving to Bray, Co Wicklow, we definitely feel a change to more organic designs with subtle colour pops.
Inspiration for new designs:
We try to learn new skills in various crafting classes that mightn't necessarily be connected to our own style but it gives us a different perspective and new approach to our work. Some designs emerge from countless experiments, some from lucky mistakes and others stay on “learning curve” shelf.
We're also inspired by Japanese world view called Wabi Sabi, where focus is on embracing rustic simplicity and beauty that comes with age. Most of our concrete home-wares have visible imperfections that are accented with gold detail. For jewellery we use raw brass and copper that oxidizes over the time, creating subtle and graceful patina, making each necklace truly unique.
